The Harry D. Stephens Trust recently announced a donation to the Darke County Agricultural Society for capital improvements. The Directors of the Great Darke County Fair are extremely grateful for this donation. 2016 Fairgoers will notice the following capital improvements: new and resurfaced pavement; Swine Barn partial foundation, overhead door and East end siding; Rabbit Barn overhead door; Sheep Barn & Goat Barn skylights; new roof on Speed Barn # 4 and the East lower Coliseum ramp has been renovated.
Harry D. Stephens lived a quiet life after his retirement from the banking world in 1973. A passion of his was his apple orchard, located west of Greenville on State Route 502.
Mr. Stephens stipulated in his Last Will and Testament that a portion of his estate be distributed for the public benefit of the Greenville, Ohio area residents. The interest income was designated to be spent only for charitable, educational, scientific, literary and/or religious purposes.
Distributions of interest income from the Trust are made semi-annually each year. Application forms may be obtained from the Darke County Chamber of Commerce on Walnut Street in Greenville. The deadline for the June distribution is April 1 and October 1 for the December distribution.
The present Trust Fund members include Al Greiner, Jennifer Bish, Dr. Michael Fourman, Dianna Wagner and Rebecca Jenkinson. The committee is happy to announce in the 25 years since the start of the distributions, over $1.5 million in interest income has been returned to benefit Greenville area residents. Mr. Stephens’s contribution to the residents of Greenville will enhance the future of our community.
